Termin: 24. Februar 2023, 10:00-17:00 Uhr
Ort: Stiftung Naturschutz Berlin
Seminar language is English!
This seminar presents a selection of methodological tools from the social sciences and the environmental
humanities proposed and developed by scholars working in the area of science and nature. Through the
discussion of specific concepts and research examples, participants will be encouraged to re-think themes
that may be already familiar to them – urban nature, species co-habitation, scientific modes of knowing
and caring for nature – through the critical sensibility of such disciplines. A particular file rouge of this
seminar is the term nature itself and the related concepts of biodiversity, Anthropocene and naturecultures.
Questions concerning disciplinary boundaries as well as how different professional worlds define the terms
of their narratives will be discussed in the framework of the participants’ own practice and educational
background with a particular focus on the local Berlin context. Practical methods such as multispecies
ethnography and speculative fabulation will be also introduced. A reader with the texts presented and
additional references will be provided.
